Update standalone ESX host<\/span><\/p>\n

If you have a client that just has 1 ESX host then you have to manually update your esx host since you don\u2019t have any update manager or vcenter available<\/p>\n

Here are steps to update your esx host<\/p>\n

In this example im upgrading from esx 5.1 tot 5.5 u1<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Shutdown all VM\u2019s<\/li>\n
  2. Put the esx host in maintenance mode<\/li>\n
  3. Enable ssh access on your esx host<\/li>\n
  4. Open http firewall port for outgoing traffic in Configuration \u2013 Security Profile \u2013 Firewall (section)\"esx<\/a>
    \nOr use esxcli command: esxcli network firewall ruleset\u00a0set\u00a0-e\u00a0true\u00a0-r httpClient<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
      \n
    1. use follwing esxi shell command to update your esx host, you can use putty for this
      \nesxcli software profile update \u2013d       https:\/\/hostupdate.vmware.com\/software\/VUM\/PRODUCTION\/main\/vmw-depot-index.xml<\/a>-p ESXi-5.5.0-20140302001-standard
      \n(just wait a few min to see the update start.)<\/li>\n
    2. Reboot your host<\/li>\n
    3. Use VMware \u2013 v to see the new version is installed<\/li>\n
