When you need to upgrade your vCenter Operations manager 5.8, you will need an additional step. First you need to upgrade to vRealize Operations Manager 6.0 and then do an upgrade to 6.2 version. So In part one I’ll go through the deployment of the appliance, part 2 the initial setup, part 3 the migration of 5.8 to 6.0 and finally part 4 upgrade to 6.2 version of vRealize Operations manager.
Part 1: Deploy vRealize operations manager 6.x
Start by deploying the vRealize Operations manager appliance. Right click on your cluster/host where you want to deploy and select “Deploy OVF Template” (deployment of vRealize operations manager 6.0 or 6.2 appliance are the same)
Select your local OVA file from your hard drive or a network drive.
Review the details. Change the description if needed and click next. Accept the EULA on the next window.
Now you can change the name if you want and select the correct folder you want to deploy in. click Next
In this screen you need to decide what size your environment is. Select each one to read a short description. In this example a medium configuration is selected wich include 2000 to 4000 VM’s. this appliance will be deployed with 8vCPU and 32 GB of memory. Click Next
Choose your storage you want to deploy on. If you are working with storage policy, only those datastore in the policy will be visible. I used thin provisioning because lack of free storage. Click Next
Setup your Network and click Next
Last thing to do before finishing is to set up you Gateway, DNS, ip address and subnetmask. Make sure you fill in the correct ip address according to your network setup. (management network, or production,…) click Next.
And Finally we are ready to complete. Review all settings and go back if necessary. Click finish
Wait a few minutes to deploy the appliance. After that you can Power on the appliance. Again wait few minutes and let it boot. Once the appliance is up and running you will see the next screen in your console view
In part 2 I will show the initial setup and migration from the data from vRealize Operations Manager 5.8 to 6.0
